Cryptera launches new security service
Cryptera launches new security service FirmwareGuard and partners with Microchip Technology.
Cryptera is one of the world’s technology leaders in the field of encryption, certification and secure personalization. Recently the company announced a strategic partnership with Microchip Technology Inc., a global provider of microcontrollers and semiconductors. Under the partnership, Cryptera will operate as a Microchip design partner and provide clients of Microchip Technology with its cryptographic services to secure sensitive information on chip devices. The partners will start deploying their solutions globally.
Cryptera creates reliable and secure hardware, software and services to protect sensitive information using cryptographic methods and secure processes. The company’s services ensure hardened security and reduced time-to-market, covering device deployment from beginning to end.
The partnership calls for Microchip’s customers – for example, manufacturers of payment devices such as POS terminals – to be advised of Cryptera’s security portfolio. Cryptera would then provide its security platform “FirmwareGuard” directly to the customer. The FirmwareGuard services include a root of trust assuring that devices run only genuine code, IP protection, production management, secure remote firmware updates, key and certificate provisioning, and a certifiable and auditable solution that complies with highest standards.
Brian Schleisner, CEO of Cryptera: “We are very happy to bring our expertise in secure PIN-based payment solutions to Microchip’s clients. Payment transactions require PCI PTS-compliant devices for user interaction and PCI-compliant firmware and key management. Our clients will experience reduced time-to-market for payment devices and save on the costs of setting up a PCI-compliant security room, maintaining the latest cryptographic knowledge, and conducting PCI audits. Additionally the partnership with Microchip will enable us to bring our security expertise to other industries such as IoT device manufacturers
“In a fast growing market of connected devices we are committed to bring solutions to our customers that improve the security level of their products,” said Rod Drake, vice president of Microchip’s 32-bit Microcontroller and Microprocessor business units. “In partnership with Cryptera, their FirmwareGuard services provide our customers a security platform for manufacturing and life cycle management proven for many years on their PCI certified keypads.”
